I am responsible for the day- to day- operations of the NSF funded research network FLAMEnet (Failure as a Part of Learning: A Mindset Education Network). In addition to basic logistic and administrative tasks, I also provide conceptual and statistical support form the field of psychology to a project that brings together STEM instructors and education researchers in an attempt to improve undergraduate STEM students’ responses to academic failures and challenges.

I conducted a series of teaching of research projects to test the effectiveness of a series of instructional exercises I created for a statistics lab. I am currently in the process of disseminating those findings, seeking to better understand the best practices for using the exercises, and am looking to create and evaluate other novel teaching methods.

My duties as lab coordinator included a variety of tasks related to the day-to-day operation of the lab, as well as mentoring undergraduate student members of the lab. I was responsible for training new students on the study protocols and for helping them with their personal research projects.

The Youth Development lab conducts several longitudinal studies investigating mechanisms of risk for a variety of problem outcomes in childhood and adolescence. As a research assistant, I called and scheduled participants, prepared materials for subject interviews, conducted interviews, collected biological specimens, compiled and formatted data for analysis, and used collected data to address a variety of research questions.

This was a 5-year study evaluating the effectiveness of the sports-mentoring program SquashSmarts in improving adjustment outcomes for middle and high school at-risk students in the inner-city area of Philadelphia. My duties included administering a variety of assessment measures to subjects in 7th-12th grade, scoring measures, entering data, and helping to file documents for IRB Continuing Review.
